Youth Club Development Scheme!
From
1st August YPC will have a dedicated worker to support small youth
clubs across Cornwall. The worker will be responsible for helping clubs
to raise their standards of youth work practice and providing a range
of support services including help with fundraising, governance and
policies and procedures. Please phone Young People Cornwall on (01872)

Young People Cornwall, through our range of projects
including: Fusion, Hear Our Voice, Horizons, Zebs, the Vee-Volunteer programme
and the Saturday Club has reached out to and worked with 2201 young people aged
8-25 years in June. Our vast range of activities, events and trips have enabled
young people to have fun, learn new skills and make a positive contribution to
the Cornish community. Young People Cornwall’s
exciting summer programme of activities runs throughout July and August (see
over the page for details).
Figures for June:
Horizons worked with 157 young people through outreach
work on estates in Truro, The Clays, Illogan and Penryn.
11 young people were involved in the Vee-Volunteer
programme.
105 young people worked with youth workers at Zebs.
100 young people accessed Healthy Eating Sessions at
Zebs.
300 young people were included in musical sessions.
The Peer-Mentoring scheme has worked with 81 young
people.
The Fusion Project Schools Co-ordinator worked with
110 young people in schools and colleges, and Fusion made presentations to 1100
in assemblies.
The Fusion Project’s drop-in sessions in Illogan, and
outreach on estates in Malpas and
Trelander included 116 young people.
Hear Our Voice continued to listen to and support 60 young people.
The Saturday Club coached 20 children (weekly average)
in different
activities.
Achievements and Key Events:
The Saturday Club included younger children in
swimming, dance, music and craft at Truro
School, Truro
Library and Richard
Lander School.
Hear Our Voice continued to influence the design and
delivery of service provision in Mental Health.
The Peer Education Residential trained 11 young people
in equality and diversity.
The Bodmin Jail and Crealy trip at half term was
enjoyed by 30 young people. The Café has been set up at Zebs and is run by 3
young people.
There has been a positive response to Healthy Eating
Sessions in the café, and music playing at the café has encouraged new young
people to join Zebs.
‘Diversity in Drum’ lessons and workshops at Zebs
contributed to the YouthAchievement Award that 12 young people have undertaken.
Five young people completed The River Severn 100 mile Canoe trip challenge.
The Sexual Health Mobile
Unit was staffed by YPC youth workers
in Tintagel, Delabole, Bodmin and
Bude.
Fusion, in partnership with Traveller Space, has set
up an education programme for
young people from the traveller community.
Staff and Volunteers successfully completed NVQs.
Three people completed Level 3; two are working towards level 3, and three more
towards Level 2.
ZEBS Cafe opens on Saturday 12th April from midday until 4pm:
Run by young people the cafe will provide cheap, healthy food made to
order. A live acoustic set will also be performed by one of Zebs bands.
